MSt in Philosophy of Physics Alumni Information

The MSt in Philosophy of Physics offers a graduate education in philosophy of physics of the highest possible quality and provides a foundation from which candidates can go on to pursue doctoral work in the area. This page provides information on what graduates of the MSt in Philosophy of Physics have gone on to do. In line with UK government legislation (GDPR), this page only includes details of students/alumni from whom we have received written permission to publish their information.

Alicia Fallows is working in academic publishing for Frontiers in Physics, and Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, as a Journal Specialist.

Olumakinde Ogunnaike is currently studying for a PhD in Physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (from September 2018)

Kevin Chapman is currently working as a Associate Attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP (from October 2023)

Natasha Oughton completed the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford. She is currently the Quantum Computing Policy and Ethics Lead at the National Quantum Computing Centre (from January 2024) 

Wesley Roberts is currently studying for PhD in Theoretical Condensed Matter in the Professor Gregory Fiete Group at Northeastern University, Boston (February 2021)

Manveer Sahota is currently working in HedgeFund Sales at Morgan Stanley

Daniel Sega Neuman is currently studying for a PhD in Astrophysics and Planetary Science at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado (from September 2018) and was awarded a NASA Future Investigator grant to improve on the theory of waves on planetary rings.

Markus Dreher is currently studying for a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification) in Philosophy in Munich, Germany (from November 2017)

Ahmad Elabbar studied German at the Volkshochschule Erfurt, Germany (from October 2017 - May 2018), then worked at Cambridge Assessment at the University of Cambridge. He completed his MPhil in History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine at the University of Cambridge (from September 2019 - September 2020). Since October 2020 he has been studying for a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge

Johannes Fankhauser worked on a research project in the Quantum Information Group at ETH Zurich (from October 2017 - July 2018). He is currently studying for the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford (from September 2018)

Benjamin Graves - is currently studying a PhD in Glaciology at King's College London

Alvaro Mozota Frauca worked for SDG group, a consulting firm specialised in data management, analytics and big data (from February 2018). He completed a PhD in Philosophy of Physics at the University of Barcelona (2018 - 2022) and is a member of the Proteus research team at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Alvaro has also been a visiting student at the University of California, San Diego (September - December 2021). He is currently a Fixed-Term Lecturer, University of Girona, Spain (September 2023-September 2023)

Niels Linnemann went on to complete a Master in Applied Mathematics (Theoretical Physics, Part III) at the University of Cambridge (2014–2015). He is currently studying for a PhD in Philosophy of Physics at the University of Geneva (from September 2016)

Tushar Menon completed the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford (2014-2019). He is currently a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, and an Associate Member of the Philosophy Faculty at the University of Oxford.

Carina Prunkl went on to complete the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford (September 2014 - December 2018). She is now working as a Senior Research Scholar at the Future of Humanity Institute (October 2018 - September 2020)

Niels Martens went on to complete the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford (2013 – 2017) and secured a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Philosophy of Physics as part of the interdisciplinary research unit Epistemology of the LHC , located first at the Institute for Theoretical Particle Physics and Cosmology at RWTH Aachen University, from September 2016 to October 2019, and afterwards at the Lichtenberg Group for History and Philosophy of Physics at the University of Bonn, from October 2018 to December 2022

Raja Panjwani completed a PhD in Economics at New York University Stern School of Business (2024). He is currently a post-doc at Georgetown University, and consulting researcher at Microsoft Research (2024).

Diego Romero Maltrana is currently an Associate Professor at Instituto de Física, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (from March 2014), and a researcher at Instituto de Filosofía y Ciencias de la Complejidad (from November 2013) 

Olinga Tahzib went on to complete the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at BPP Law. He completed a pupillage at Outer Temple Chambers in 2016 and is currently a Barrister at Outer Temple Chambers (from September 2017)

Alec Domm (2012) is retired but retains a keen interest in Astronomy and is a member of the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS).

Robert Marsland III (2012) studied for a PhD in Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from September 2012 which he completed in June 2017. He is now a Postdoctoral Fellow at Boston University (from July 2017)

Tom Møller-Nielsen (2012) went on to complete the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford (2012 – 2016) and worked as a Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy at Oriel College, University of Oxford  from September 2016 – April 2018.

Charles Sebens (2010) went on to complete an MS in Physics (2013) and PhD in Philosophy (2015) at the University of Michigan. He is now an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the California Institute of Technology (from 2018).

Zachary Slepian (2012) went on to complete both an A.M. in Astronomy (2014) and a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics (2016) at Harvard University. He is now a Chamberlain Fellow and an Einstein Fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (from 2016) 

Manus Visser (2012) went on to complete a Masters in Theoretical Physics at the University of Amsterdam (2014) and is currently studying for a PhD in Theoretical Physics at the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Amsterdam (from 2014)
