Post-Kantian European Philosophy Seminar (Tuesday - Week 8, TT24)

Post-Kantian European Philosophy Seminar

AbstractDrawing on Sense, Nonsense, and Subjectivity (HUP, 2024), in my lecture, I will first present the outlines of a novel type of realism about sense. According to this view, reality as that to which thought is answerable presents itself as a heterogenous plurality of fields of sense. These fields of sense are not articulated in terms of an overall architecture. They do not form a world. In this context, I will then introduce an account of ontological nonsense as field confusion and argue that first-order metaphysics can be reconstructed as a patchwork of large-scale ontological mistakes.
