Abstract: In fr. 18, Xenophanes rejects divine revelation as a possible source of knowledge, claiming that by inquiring, humans “find out better.” Yet given the limitations of human experience (as pointed out by Xenophanes himself, among others), how can humans come to know? This talk considers the responses of Heraclitus and Parmenides to this question.
